“As we go into 2010, I want to thank you for all the support you’ve provided at the Harris County Republican Party. Like you, I too am concerned about a government in Washington that is taking control of every aspect of our lives - our boardrooms, our showrooms, our school rooms, our hospital rooms. Enough is enough and it has to stop.
Over the past few months America has begun to wake up to the true Barack Obama. We now know what “hope and change” really means. You remember what they promised us. Hope and change meant a stimulus package that would keep unemployment at 8%. Well, the last time I checked unemployment was 10% and the effective rate was over 17%. It’s a tax and “cap and tax” system that will cripple — cripple our economy. It’s a $787 Billion stimulus package that does anything but stimulate the economy. It’s a budget that they promised wouldn’t have any earmarks and end up with over 9,000 earmarks. It’s a Trillion dollar government intrusion into our healthcare system that will increase premiums and limit choices.
We need to be an active part of the grassroots conservative movement seen in the town hall meetings all across this country. We need to embrace the passion of the Tea Party Movement. Whether you’re a conservative Republican activist, a Tea Party Patriot, or a person who is just plain sick and tired of the direction our country is going, we need to be united in our mission, confident in our cause, unwavering in our beliefs, and unified in the fight to take this country back from the radical left.
Like you, I believe in limited government, less government spending, a secure border, a strong military, a free market capitalist economic system, and a pro-life, pro-family values culture. As your party chairman, I will continue to fight for these principles.
I want to thank you for what you’ve done for the Harris County Republican Party over the years. I want to thank you for what you’re doing, and I want to thank you for what you’re going to do in the future. Together we will take this country back. And it starts here in Harris County. If we can hold Harris County we can hold the State of Texas. And if we can win the State of Texas, we can get this country back — but it takes every single one of us rolling up our sleeves, working to register voters and then working to turn them back out to make a difference — to take this country back to its conservative roots.
I look forward to working with you towards victory in 2010.

Democrats Try to Suppress First Amendment Rights
Dear Harris County Republicans,
Last week, our friend Congressman John Culberson, from the 7th Congressional District of Texas, sent out an “SOS” message through the Social Networking sites “Twitter” and “Facebook” to issue a call to action to contact Nancy Pelosi’s office due to censorship of constituent communication. Apparently the Democrats are censoring Republicans who wish to use their “franking” privilege, the practice of sending out correspondence to constituents using the U.S. Postal Service, forcing them to remove any words or ideas that do not support the Democrat agenda.
For those that have not yet become involved with Social Networking, Twitter and Facebook are web-based applications that allow communication to a network of “friends”, individuals who subscribe to each other’s message. The Twitter website limits each individual message or “Tweet”, to a limit of 140 characters. If you are interested in learning more about Facebook, please access our website at harriscountygop.com or join us at our next Facebook 101 training session.
Many today are using these Social Networks to communicate with a vast number of individuals quickly, often from cell phones or PDA’s (Personal Digital Assistants). Congressman Culberson has quite a wide following on these Social Networks and implemented them last week to issue a call to action to bombard Nancy Pelosi’s office with phone calls, emails, and letters to stop this censorship and allow our congressmen to communicate freely with their constituents.
The gist of John’s “Tweets” last week went like this:
John’s Call to Action:
Bombard Pelosi and House leadership; let the sun shine in; post all bills online for 72 hrs before they are voted on, open debate/amendments and end censorship!
We accept Congressman Culberson’s challenge - we are devoted to freedom of speech, and support him in this endeavor! Please call Nancy Pelosi’s office, bombard her with emails, and contact the House leadership and let them know that you will not accept this censorship! Remind them that the First Amendment trumps any of their efforts to stifle free speech and that we will not stand for this partisan behavior!
